Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre

In 1997, the Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre (SBOIC), located on the Moose Jaw exhibition grounds, opened its doors to the public.   Visitors from around the world have toured the Centre to find out more about the endangered "Burrowing Owl".   Burrowing Owls have been naturally nesting in the open area inside the Exhibition's race track for many years.  This makes it a perfect place for the Centre.   The Interpretive Centre provides a rare opportunity for guests to observe these tiny owls in their natural habitat.

While inside the Interpretive Centre, visitors are encouraged to explore the giant burrow, get a closer look at the predators and prey of the owl, and ask questions of an interpretive staff member.

While there you will meet some of the burrowing owls, who reside at the centre permanently.

Some owls are trained visit school classrooms, daycare centres and many other places when asked, along with their personal caregiver and trainer.  They have developed a very close bond with each other after spending day after day together educating people about the need to preserve the Burrowing Owls native environment.
